Dear Free Flight Aeromodelers:
Beyond the twice monthly building sessions of the Wilbur and Orville Club (Eli Whitney Museum) I call your attention to the following flying sessions.

3/18/11 - Wilbur and Orville Meeting Tonight |

Hi All,
Just a reminder that tonight, 3/18/11, we are having a Wilbur and Orville meeting from 7:00-9:00pm in the Carter Studio. In addition, plan for meetings to be held on 4/1/11 and 4/15/11.
If you have not been able to attend a Friday night meeting we would still love to have you. No need to reserve a spot or call in advance, just show up at the meeting. We will once again have the first plane we build the AMA cub ($3), the second plane the Thermal Dart ($10), the third plane the Simple Simon ($5) available, the forth plane the Cata-piglet ($10), the fifth plane the Flash hand launch glider ($10), and the sixth plane the Air Hare ($15).
So far there has only been one person that has successfully complete the Air Hare ($15), a rubber-band powered mini-stick model airplane. I strongly encourage those that have not finished to return and complete your Air Hare. The Air Hare is my particular favorite because kids get the first chance to build a built-up structure, both wing and stabilizer. Once complete this model may need some adjustment but will completely surprise you when it flies like a champ.
Those that complete the Air Hare will move on to the Sig Cub ($15), another rubber-band powered mini-stick model airplane. This model will also take more then one session to complete. This model is similar to the Air Hare with the addition of a landing gear mounted to the front of the model. For the advanced aeromodelers, we will be offering the Sky Bunny ($10). Building the Sky Bunny requires either having completed one week of the Museum’s Aeromodeling Summer Program, or mastery of an Air Hare.
Lastly I want to point out that Summer 2011 Registration for the Eli Whitney Museum Summer camps is online and open, Click here to go to EWM Summer 2011. This summer we offer Aeromodeling Week 4 (July 5 - 8), Aeromodeling Week 5 (July 11 - 15), and finally an Advanced Aeromodeling Week 9 (August 8 - 12). I strongly encourage that you look into signing your child up for a week or two of aeromodeling. It would give your child a chance to develop their skills and confidence building on their own. In addition summer camp offers children a chance to socialize with fellow aeromodelers.
I hope to see everyone night. Please email me at sr {at} eliwhitney {dot} org with any questions.

3/4/11 - Wilbur and Orville Meeting Tonight |

Hi All,
Just a reminder that tonight, 3/4/11, we are having a Wilbur and Orville meeting from 7:00-9:00pm in the Carter Studio. In addition, plan for meetings to be held on 3/18/11.
If you have not been able to attend a Friday night meeting we would still love to have you. No need to reserve a spot or call in advance, just show up at the meeting. We will once again have the first plane we build the AMA cub ($3), the second plane the Thermal Dart ($10), the third plane the Simple Simon ($5) available, the forth plane the Cata-piglet ($10), and the fifth plane the Flash hand launch glider ($10).
Some have been able to successfully complete building of the Air Hare ($15), a rubber-band powered mini-stick model airplane. Those that have not finished, don't worry, we will continue building your Air Hare tonight. Building the Air Hare requires at least previously building the 50 Second Simple Simon ($5). Also, I must warn that this model will definitely take more then one session to complete, so take your time and don't rush. The Air Hare is my particular favorite because kids get the first chance to build a built-up structure, both wing and stabilizer. After building and sanding the structure the wing is assembled and covered with tissue paper just like the 50 Second Simple Simon. Lastly we assist you with the fuselage balsa stick propeller assembly. Once complete this model may need some adjustment but will completely surprise you when it flies like a champ.
Those that have completed the Air Hare will move on to the Sig Cub ($15), another rubber-band powered mini-stick model airplane. This model will also take more then one session to complete. This model is similar to the Air Hare with the addition of a landing gear mounted to the front of the model.

Hi All,
There is a Wilbur and Orville meeting scheduled for tonight 2/4/11 from 7:00-9:00pm in the Carter Studio. In addition, plan for meeting to be held on 3/4/11. There will not be a meeting on 2/18/11, I will be away in California competing in several model airplane contests. I will try to get both results and pictures for each of the contests posted to the Wilbur and Orville Society website, www.wo-society.org.

1/21/11 - Wilbur and Orville Meeting Tonight |

Hi All,
Two weeks ago, 1/7/11, we had to cancel aeromodelling due to weather. There is a Wilbur and Orville meeting scheduled for tonight 1/21/11 from 7:00-9:00pm in the Carter Studio. In addition, plan for meeting to be held on 2/4/11.
I have been keeping a close eye on the weather forecast the past few days. It seems as thou the snow we were predicted to get came earlier rather then later. Today, the weather forecast for Hamden shows that it is mostly sunny with temperatures steady or falling to near 27F. In the slight chance that mother nature decides to send us snow, I will make a determination about snow cancellation by 4pm today. So please check your e-mail before you come!
Last Friday, we began building a Air Hare ($15), a rubber-band powered mini-stick model airplane. Building the Air Hare requires at least previously building the 50 Second Simple Simon ($5). Also, I must warn that this model will defiantly take more then one session to complete, so take your time and don't rush. The Air Hare is my particular favorite because kids get the first chance to build a built-up structure, both wing and stabilizer. Most who join us last meeting were able to complete building their structure and began sanding. This week those individuals will assemble the wing and cover it with tissue paper just like the 50 Second Simple Simon. In addition while the covering is drying, we will assist you with the fuselage balsa stick propeller assembly. Once complete this model may need some adjustment but will completely surprise you when it flies like a champ.
For the advanced aeromodelers, we will be offering the Sky Bunny ($10). Building the Sky Bunny requires either having completed one week of the Museum’s Aeromodeling Summer Program, or mastery of an Air Hare.

Tonight's meeting has been cancelled and will be rescheduled.
Hi All,
I hope everyone had a Happy Holiday and a nice New Years. Now it's time to get back to building model airplanes. Just a reminder that tomorrow, 1/7/11, is our 7th Wilbur and Orville meeting from 7:00-9:00pm in the Carter Studio. In addition, plan for meetings to be held on 1/21/11 and 2/4/11.
The weather forecast for Hamden shows a chance of snow showers late this afternoon and tomorrow a 80% chance of snow. I will make a determination about snow cancellation by 4pm on Friday. So please check your e-mail before you come!
